TE-FOOD is implemented in Vietnam for pig, chicken, and egg traceability through the whole supply chain from farm to retail.
In 2015, the government of Ho Chi Minh City decided to implement whole-chain traceability for pig trade. They required a solution to combine high tech technology with a cost effective solution.
The government, and its local implementation partner, TE Ltd. opted for a mobile app based approach to help companies adapting to the system. They planned the localization of the system, and the necessary enforcement checkpoints.
Pilot of the system started in Q3, 2016 with a roll-out at the end of the same year. The government and TE Ltd. successfully managed the training of more than 6,000 companies in South-Vietnam.
Preparations to expand traceability to chicken and eggs started in Q1, 2017. During June 2017, training of companies in the chicken/egg supply chain started. From September 2017, 250,000 chickens and 2 million eggs are tracked each day.
